Western Union Launches Stablecard on Solana Blockchain via USDPT
Western Union announced the launch of USDPT, its U.S. dollar-denominated payment stablecoin, on May 4, 2026. The token is fully backed by U.S. dollars and issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., a federally chartered crypto bank. USDPT is built on Solana and designed to function as an always-on settlement asset within Western Union's payment infrastructure.
The company said the stablecoin replaces the latency and fragmentation of traditional correspondent banking rails with blockchain-based settlement. Western Union is developing several services around USDPT, including availability on licensed virtual currency exchanges and a Digital Asset Network connecting exchanges and custodians to its global payout and liquidity infrastructure. A consumer-facing product called Stable by Western Union is also in development.
