Stripe acquired Lemon Squeezy, a merchant-of-record payment processor based in Salt Lake City, for an undisclosed sum. Lemon Squeezy's platform processes payments, subscriptions, handles global tax compliance, fraud prevention, multi-currency support, and PayPal integration. The merchant-of-record model allows Stripe to provide comprehensive financial solutions including compliance and customer support for businesses expanding globally.

Founded around 2020, Lemon Squeezy had surpassed $1 million in annual recurring revenue within nine months of its public launch. This marks Stripe's 16th acquisition since its 2010 founding. The deal represents Stripe's strategic push into merchant-of-record services, enabling platforms and businesses to sell globally without managing tax and regulatory complexity themselves.

The acquisition strengthens Stripe's embedded finance ecosystem and positions it against competitors like Square and PayPal in the comprehensive payments space.
