Griffin Bank Obtains Full UK Banking License for BaaS Platform

Griffin Bank, a UK-based banking-as-a-service startup, received its full banking license in March 2024 following approximately one year of regulatory review by UK authorities. The full license enables Griffin to offer fintech companies a comprehensive, full-stack embedded banking platform covering banking, payments, and wealth solutions with built-in automated compliance. TechCrunch reported that Griffin also raised $24 million in connection with this milestone.

As a fully licensed bank, Griffin can now hold customer deposits and offer a broader range of regulated financial products through its BaaS platform. The automated compliance features are designed to address one of the key challenges in bank-fintech partnerships: maintaining regulatory standards at scale. Griffin's licensing positions it as one of a limited number of purpose-built BaaS banks in the UK market.

The approval comes as regulators globally increase focus on the BaaS model and the oversight responsibilities of sponsor banks.
