Brex Expands Instant Payouts to PayPal, Square, and Stripe Merchants

On April 22, 2021, Brex announced the expansion of its instant payouts service to merchants processing payments through PayPal, Square, and Stripe. Previously, instant payouts were only available for merchants using Amazon and Shopify. The service allows merchants to access their earnings immediately rather than waiting for standard settlement periods, in exchange for a fee.

Brex customers also benefit from complementary services including free wires, ACH transfers, expense management tools, and rewards programs that can help offset payout fees. The move positions Brex as an embedded finance intermediary sitting between major payment processors and merchants, addressing a key cash flow pain point for small and mid-sized businesses. This expansion reflects the broader trend of fintechs layering banking-like services on top of existing payment infrastructure to capture merchant relationships.
