ABN AMRO Partners with Mistral for European AI Banking Tools

ABN AMRO and European AI company Mistral announced a strategic partnership on Aug 5, 2026, to develop and deploy AI applications for the Dutch bank. The deal marks Mistral's first partnership with a Dutch bank. ABN AMRO gains access to AI technology developed and managed in Europe, reducing its dependence on non-European providers.

AI tools built under the agreement must meet the bank's requirements for security, transparency, privacy, and regulatory compliance, aligned with European norms. Carsten Bittner, ABN AMRO's Chief Innovation & Technology Officer, said the partnership allows the bank to use advanced AI while choosing "reliable European innovation." Marjorie Janiewicz, Mistral's Chief Revenue Officer, called ABN AMRO one of Europe's most forward-looking financial institutions. No financial terms were disclosed.
