Visa Completes Acquisition of Open Banking Platform Tink

Visa finalized its acquisition of Tink, a leading European open banking API platform, around early March 2022 after receiving necessary regulatory approvals. Originally announced in June 2021 for approximately €1.8 billion, the deal represents one of the largest open banking acquisitions to date. Tink's platform connects to more than 3,400 banks and financial institutions across Europe, enabling account aggregation, payment initiation, and financial data enrichment via API.

For Visa, the acquisition adds critical open banking infrastructure to complement its existing card network and payment capabilities. The combination positions Visa to offer a more comprehensive suite of embedded finance services to fintechs, banks, and merchants across Europe. The deal reflects the growing strategic importance of open banking APIs as foundational infrastructure in the BaaS and embedded finance ecosystem.
