Temenos Acquires Mobile Platform Kony for $559M to Boost Digital Banking

Temenos, a leading core banking software provider, announced the acquisition of Kony, a mobile application development platform, for $559 million with an additional $21 million earn-out. Kony's platform enabled banks and financial institutions to build and deploy digital front-office experiences across mobile and web channels. The acquisition was expected to close in Q4 2019 and aimed to bolster Temenos' ability to offer end-to-end digital banking solutions, from core processing to customer-facing interfaces.

The deal reflects the growing demand from banks for integrated technology stacks that power embedded finance and modern banking experiences. Kony's capabilities in low-code mobile app development were seen as complementary to Temenos' existing back-end banking infrastructure. The combined offering was intended to help banks accelerate digital transformation and compete with fintech challengers on user experience.
