Standard Chartered Launches SC Ventures Unit to Invest in Fintechs

Standard Chartered announced the creation of SC Ventures, a dedicated business unit designed to lead digital innovation across the group and invest in fintech companies. Effective March 1, 2018, the unit consolidates the bank's innovation efforts under a single umbrella. SC Ventures is tasked with investing in external fintechs, sponsoring internal ventures, and exploring emerging technologies including distributed ledger technology and next-generation payments infrastructure.

The initiative builds on Standard Chartered's prior engagement with fintech proofs-of-concept and signals a more structured approach to bank-fintech partnerships. By creating a standalone unit, the bank aims to accelerate the adoption of embedded finance capabilities and foster deeper collaboration with technology startups. The move positions Standard Chartered as an active participant in the BaaS and embedded finance landscape across its key markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
