SEB Embedded Goes Live with Thought Machine-Powered BaaS Platform

Swedish bank SEB launched its SEB Embedded Banking-as-a-Service platform, built on Thought Machine's Vault Core technology, marking a significant milestone in the bank's embedded finance strategy. The platform went live with Hemköp, a major Swedish supermarket chain, as its inaugural client, offering debit card issuance and Apple Pay support. The collaboration between SEB and Thought Machine began in December 2023, with the full production launch achieved in under 10 months.

SEB Embedded enables non-financial brands to offer banking products directly to their customers through SEB's regulated infrastructure. The rapid deployment timeline demonstrates the efficiency of modern cloud-native core banking platforms for BaaS use cases. Further expansions of the platform with additional clients and features were planned for late 2024.

The partnership positions SEB as a key BaaS provider in the Nordic market, competing with other embedded finance offerings in the region.
