Revolut Obtains French Banking Licence to Expand European Operations
Revolut announced on Aug 10, 2026, that it had obtained a French banking licence, extending its European operations beyond its existing EU banking licence in Lithuania. The London-based fintech plans to make Paris its Western Europe headquarters. Revolut is hiring more than 600 employees across Western Europe as part of the expansion, with 400 of those positions based in France.
Clients in some European countries will be moved to the new French entity. CEO Nik Storonsky has previously said a French licence could help Revolut secure a U.S. banking licence. The approval positions Revolut to offer locally regulated banking services in one of Europe's largest retail markets.
