Nu Mexico Receives Final Banking Authorization From Mexican Regulators

Nu Mexico, the Mexican subsidiary of Brazilian digital bank Nu, secured authorization to begin operating as a bank. The approval, reported on Jul 14, 2026, follows conditional licence approval from Mexico's National Banking and Securities Commission roughly a year earlier. Nu Mexico has 30 calendar days to complete its transition into a fully licensed bank.

Nu entered the Mexican market in 2019 and launched a no-fee credit card the following year. The subsidiary has since added personal loans, secured cards, and credit-building products. Once fully operational, Nu Mexico says it will be the country's largest digital bank, serving more than 15 million customers and managing over $5.9 billion in deposits.
