HKMA Launches FiNETech Platform for Banks and Insurers to Adopt Fintech

On April 26, 2024, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) officially launched FiNETech, a collaborative platform designed to accelerate fintech adoption across Hong Kong's financial sector. The platform brings together approximately 100 participants including banks, insurance companies, and technology firms in a structured environment for exploring and deploying fintech solutions. Key focus areas include Wealthtech, Insurtech, Greentech, artificial intelligence, and distributed ledger technology.

Participants gain access to the HKMA's Fintech Supervisory Sandbox, enabling them to test innovative products in a controlled regulatory environment. The initiative represents a significant step by a major financial regulator to formalize and scale bank-fintech partnerships. By providing a centralized platform for collaboration, the HKMA aims to reduce barriers to adoption and encourage financial institutions to integrate emerging technologies into their operations.

The launch positions Hong Kong as a proactive regulatory environment for embedded finance and fintech innovation in the APAC region.
