FNB Partners with Atomic to Embed Direct Deposit Switch in Account Opening
On April 14, 2025, First National Bank (FNB) introduced a Direct Deposit Switch capability embedded directly into its digital account opening flow through its eStore platform. The feature automates the process of switching a customer's payroll direct deposit to their new FNB account, eliminating manual steps traditionally required to change deposit instructions with employers. FNB partnered with Atomic, a fintech specializing in payroll connectivity and deposit switching, to power the integration.
The bank also plans to expand the functionality to include automated recurring debit moves for bills and subscriptions. This embedded approach targets a key friction point in customer acquisition, as capturing the primary direct deposit relationship is critical for banks to become a customer's primary financial institution. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
The launch reflects the growing adoption of embedded payroll and deposit switching tools by community and regional banks seeking to compete with larger institutions and neobanks on digital onboarding experience. Atomic's infrastructure enables FNB to offer this capability without building custom payroll integrations.
