Dubai Islamic Bank Launches 'Banking in Minutes' Mobile Account Opening

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) launched its 'Banking in Minutes' service in November 2019 as part of its digital transformation strategy entering the next decade. The service allows UAE nationals and residents to open bank accounts directly through the DIB Mobile App in a matter of minutes by scanning identity documents, capturing a selfie for verification, and completing a digital signature. Beyond account opening, the bank extended its embedded finance capabilities by allowing prequalified credit card customers to apply for cards through the app.

These customers can begin using their new credit cards immediately via Apple Pay without needing to wait for physical card delivery. The initiative positions DIB as a digitally intelligent bank and reflects broader trends in the MENA region toward fully digital banking onboarding. No specific financial terms were disclosed for the launch.
