France's BPCE Bank Integrates TransferWise API for International Transfers

BPCE, France's second largest bank by capitalization, announced the integration of TransferWise's API directly into its mobile banking application. The partnership enables BPCE's customers to send international transfers to 60 countries at approximately 0.5% in fees, significantly undercutting traditional cross-border transfer costs. Rather than developing proprietary international transfer infrastructure, BPCE chose to embed TransferWise's proven technology into its existing platform.

This approach reflects a broader industry trend of banks leveraging fintech APIs to enhance their product offerings. The integration allows BPCE to offer competitive FX transfer rates without the development overhead, while TransferWise gains access to BPCE's large customer base. This deal is notable as one of the early examples of a top-tier European bank embedding a fintech's core product directly via API into its primary banking app.
