French Fintech Bankin' Launches Bridge Pay Payment Initiation API
On January 29, 2020, French fintech Bankin' introduced Bridge Pay, a new API product built on its existing Bridge open banking infrastructure. Bridge Pay allows merchants and app developers to initiate bank transfer payments directly within their applications, bypassing traditional credit card rails. The product is aimed at e-commerce transactions involving high-value items and B2B payment workflows where card fees are prohibitive.
Bankin', founded in 2011, had already aggregated 4 million users' bank accounts through its consumer app and developer-facing Bridge APIs for transaction data access. Bridge Pay extends this capability into payment initiation, aligning with PSD2-driven open banking trends in Europe. The launch positions Bankin' as both an account information and payment initiation service provider, competing with other European open banking API platforms.
No financial terms were disclosed for the product launch.
- Expands European open banking API ecosystem beyond account aggregation into payment initiation under PSD2
- Positions non-bank fintechs as direct competitors to card networks for high-value and B2B payment flows
