Banglalink Receives PSP Licence from Bangladesh Bank for Mukto Pay
VEON announced on Aug 12, 2026, that its Bangladesh operating company Banglalink received a Payment Service Provider licence from Bangladesh Bank. The licence clears the way for Banglalink to enter Bangladesh's digital payments market under the brand Mukto Pay. Banglalink targets a full commercial launch in September 2026, subject to remaining regulatory and technical requirements.
The PSP licence falls under a framework VEON outlined in June 2026 for a proposed public-private partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, backed by an initial $250 million investment commitment. VEON's digital revenue rose 53.6% year over year in Q2 2026 to $342 million, with financial services contributing $151 million of that total. Banglalink will join VEON's financial services platforms, which served roughly 59 million active customers across Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan during the same quarter.
